Time tends to have a habit of sneaking by unnoticed...until there is a day like New Years, or a birthday or a death and then we are reminded that the clock never stops ticking and the wheel never stops turning. Then come the questions: Have I made this year worthwhile? Have I achieved much to be proud of? Are others proud of me? And then the resolutions: This is the year. Now is the time. I'll definitely do that thing I've been meaning to do for years...soon.
To provide an example, every now and then my mother used to buy a beautiful dress or an expensive pair of shoes and when I questioned her about when she would wear them, she would answer "I'll wear them on special occasions".
Only the special occasions never came, or she would be too tired or busy to go to them. And these beautiful treasures lay in the cupboard, gathering dust.
The point to all of this is quite simple: Each day of our lives is a special occasion. The mere fact that you can read this, whether it be on a computer or a phone or an ipad shows that you are already luckier than some.
The next time you go to a shop, see something that reminds you of someone and think you'll get it for their next birthday...think. Why not get it for them today? Today you thought of them. Today their influence on your life prompted you to remember them.
The next time you feel like doing something ridiculous like dancing in the street, singing out loud, smiling at every person you see, just because you can....do it. Why wait for someone else to justify that instinct?
Why do tomorrow what you can do today.
Just do it.
